Step Beyond the Ruins and Experience Ancient Greece First-Hand

Join renowned archaeologist Dr Christofilis Maggidis, President of the Mycenaean Foundation, for an extraordinary journey into the heart of ancient Greece. This exclusive tour offers rare access to the ongoing excavations at Mycenae, one of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites and the legendary centre of the Mycenaean civilisation.

Travel through the historic Peloponnese, visiting iconic ancient sites including Sparta, Corinth, Epidaurus and Nemea, while also discovering hidden gems that reveal the region’s rich cultural heritage. Based in the charming seaside town of Nafplio, you’ll explore one of Greece’s most beautiful landscapes, where breathtaking scenery meets thousands of years of history. The civilisation of Mycenae dominated the Greek world between the 17th and 12th centuries BC, reaching its height during the 13th century BC. The site first captured the world’s imagination through the excavations of Heinrich Schliemann, whose discoveries at Mycenae, Troy and Tiryns transformed our understanding of the ancient world and earned him the title of the “father of Mycenaean archaeology.”

A true highlight of this tour is an immersive archaeological dig simulator, where you’ll experience every stage of a professional excavation. Working in a realistic field environment, you’ll learn the techniques archaeologists use to uncover the past—from site surveying using aerial photography, ground observation and geophysical methods to excavation, conservation, restoration and cutting-edge digital recording technologies. This hands-on experience provides a fascinating insight into the science and skill behind modern archaeology. Throughout the tour, Dr Christofilis Maggidis and his team of archaeologists will lead the practical training and share their expertise through a series of exclusive evening lectures. Topics include the rise and significance of Mycenae in the ancient Greek world, the latest discoveries from the excavations, and how emerging technologies are shaping the future of archaeological research.

Designed for curious travellers, history enthusiasts and lifelong learners, this immersive tour goes far beyond traditional sightseeing. Whether you have a passion for archaeology or simply want to experience Greece in a deeper, more meaningful way, you’ll gain unparalleled access to the people, places and discoveries that continue to reshape our understanding of one of history’s greatest civilisations.
